16.9 - Cell-mediated Immunity
Cell-mediated immunity involves the
direct contact between
T-lymphocytes and other
cells.
There are three types of
T-lymphocytes involved in
cell-mediated immunity:
- Helper T cells
- Cytotoxic T cells (Killer T cells)
- Regulatory T cells
- Release supporessor factors once the body is no longer under threat from invaders
- May play a role in preventing autoimmune disease
