Anifowoshe Abayomi from Lagos, Nigeria
Anifowoshe AbayomiAnifowoshe Abayomi is a young man from Lagos, Nigeria, in West Africa. He left his country to attend Algonquin College, in January 2005, to pursue his post-secondary education. He is a proud and dedicated student of the four-year E-business Supply Chain Management program.

He likes what Algonquin College and Ottawa have to offer. He has met many people through the school and feels that people here are always willing to help. “When I got here I thought it was going to be a little bit difficult for me but the people I met, they were really awesome,” he gladly says. This busy gentleman is very active, both on and off campus. On campus, he has worked for various departments, such as the Centre for Students with Disabilities and the Student Affairs and Orientation department. As the current Vice-President of Algonquin College’s Black Student Association, Abayomi is actively involved in planning all events of this association, especially the annual Black History Month Show.

Off campus, he meets with his Nigerian friends to hang out and enjoy some local Nigerian food. This is his own way of staying close to his country and culture.  Although the beautiful city of Ottawa has become his second home, he still misses his native country. He misses his family and home food the most, but in the mean time, he is making the most of what Ottawa has to offer.

Anifowoshe AbayomiWhen he finishes his degree in 2009, he intends on spending a year in Canada to gain some valuable work experience. He will return to share the fruits of his education and experiences with those in his native country of Nigeria. He wants to be instrumental in creating positive change in Nigeria. “There are so many things they have in this country that is missing in my country,” he says. Some business opportunities that he considers worth exploring include enhancing the can food industry and transportation system of Nigeria. He says with confidence, “I will go back to my country and start something on my own.”

His determination and passion for improving his country encourages him to learn as many skills as he possibly can, while at Algonquin College. Anifowoshe Abayomi will undoubtedly be one of Nigeria’s most successful business men. But before he moves to Nigeria, Canada is to be the first one to enjoy his talents and business skills.
