12th September - 11:05 p.m. We’re all back in Cairo, getting ready for one busy week ahead of us. On our bus ride back from Alexandria, I started to feeling a bit down. I tried to take a small nap, listened to some music but in a way, it just made me feel worse. Once I got to my hotel room, I knew what was going on with me; I was actually feeling homesick, and when I say home, I mean Ottawa.
13th September - 11:08 p.m.
Today, we went to visit the Canadian Embassy here in Cairo and met the Ambassador and some Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) representatives. Following the meeting we went to they Pyramids. They are truly the most amazing and fascinating part of the world. So much history attached to them, so much knowledge. There is so much that we really don’t know about the world. I am amazed to just see how impressive ancient Egypt is. After this Expedition, my life is going to be so different – I just want to learn and share knowledge. Seeing such places just makes me love Africa so much more (hard to imagine, I know). It gives me a strong sense of pride of my continent, not that I didn’t have it before.
I’m really learning a lot about the media industry from working with Ben. He is so confident when it comes to the stand-ups he does; he can deliver a story anytime. I want to get to that stage, where I can actually be very confident with my work. Lately Ben’s been giving me more work responsibilities and knowing I have to deliver at the end of the day really gets me working hard. By the way…., I sat on a camel while I was at the pyramids; I am so scared of animals, especially when they are as big as camels. The real challenge is to actually ride a camel, which I have to do when we are in the desert. I don’t know how I’ll survive that … it’s going to be one serious experience. I’m actually looking forward to the desert experience and sleeping in a tent for nights, all alone. This is all a first to me and honestly, I don’t know if I’ll ever get a chance to be in the Sahara Desert, camping! I was dreading this part of the Expedition but now, I’m so looking forward to it
Alright, well, I hope everyone back ‘home’ in Canada is enjoying the coming of the winter…we’re just getting darker as the days go by! Till next time; lots of hugs from Cairo!
