Introduction

The Small World Big Picture: Africa project is beautifully described and illustrated on this website.   The purpose of this journal is to give visitors a slightly different perception of this project.  That perception is of Adam and Matthew MacDonald, two Ottawa high school students who have been training to climb Kilimanjaro; the highest peak in Africa.

Adam and Matthew will provide a daily update on this site and hope that readers

Adam and MatthewAdam MacDonald – I am a grade 11 student at Sacred Heart High School in Stittsville Ontario and have been involved in outdoor activities for much of my life.

We have camped, kayaked, skied, and climbed in areas such as Costa Rica, British Columbia, New Hampshire, Mexico and Ontario.  This is our first trip to Africa.

Matthew MacDonald - I am a grade 10 student at Sacred Heart High School.  Like my brother Adam, I have had the chance to do quite a bit of outdoor activities with our family (our parents and our younger sister Meagan and younger brother Patrick).

Kilimanjaro will be the highest we have climbed.  I will write this journal with Adam to allow people to follow our attempt to make it to the top of Africa.  We hope that you have a look each day to read about our challenges and progress.
